of Henry Gordon, b. Fochabers, Morayshire, Scotland.
Harry Hewson Gordon, born Fochabers, Morayshire, Scotland. His parents were Henry Gordon and Caroline Johnston (Johnstone, Johnson). Harry's father was, we understand, an inspector of hospitals in Fochabers.
Given conflicting dates on various documents in NZ, the Kiwi Harry Hewson Gordon may have been born 1842, maybe 1850. He married a Mary Hennigan (Henlon, Hanlon) in Charleston, NZ, in 1886, and if he was the father of Mary's first child, was in NZ at least by 1884 when that child was born.
Research by a relative of mine has turned up a Henry Hewson (40) and his wife Caroline (40) in the 1851 census of Britain. They apparently were living in Gordon Castle, Kennet, in Western England and came to New Zealand in 1863 with a Charles and Henry as sons. (This research is the first time the Kennet couple has been known to us. Our family oral tradition has never placed Harry's parents or other relatives in NZ).
Caroline Johnson married Henry Hewson, March 9, 1833, in Singleton, Sussex, England.
Caroline born 1810, Boxgrove, Sussex.
Her sister Harriett Johnson b December 21, 1788, no place known.
Their father was Charles Johnson, b approx 1762. He married Frances Mills, 1878, Boxgrove, West Sussex.
