1. JAMES1 EADIE (ADAM) (AIDIE) . He died. He married CHRISTIAN (CHRISTINA) MCLAREN in Feb 1816 in

Notes for James Eadie (Adam) (Aidie):
An extract from the 1845 Statistical Account for Scotland - Glasgow Area (possibly relating to the unrecorded death of James Eadie (married in 1816)
That dreadful epidemic, cholera morbus, showed itself in this city on the 12th February 1832, and continued to 11th November. During that period there were 6208 cases, 3203 recoveries, and 3005 deaths, viz. males, 1289; females 1716; of whom, under 20 years of age, 868; 20 years and
under 70, 2365; 71 years and under 90,272.
It was found that there had been three eruptions of cholera marked by the reduced number of cases happening about the 3d of June, the 16th September, and the 11th November. Each eruption had a period of increase. In the first eruption, persons poorly fed, of irregular habits, and dwelling in the crowded ill-aired parts of the city, were chiefly affected. The second eruption was more severe, the attacks were more scattered over the town, and many healthy persons, and in easy circumstances, fell victims to the disease. The last eruption was milder than the second, but still surpassing the first, both in the number of cases and in the healthy and good condition of many of the sufferers.
The total number of cases, 6208, is one for about every 32-1 of the population. The total number of deaths, 3005, is one for about every 673 of the population. The progress of the disease was such as to have seized one victim for about every six, and to have occasioned one death for about every thirteen families.
It became desirable, in a medical and statistical point of view, to ascertain the number of burials during the existence of the cholera, namely, from 12th February to 11th November 1832, as compared with the corresponding period in the preceding year. The following was the result:

Another extract from ÙtWORKING CLASSES IN GLASGOWÙu by DANIEL McCALLUM.I will now mention a sad calamity which visited our shores and swept off the people by thousands. I think it was in the year 1832 that this fearful plague, called cholera, made its first appearance here. It raged in its full violence for a considerable length of time, carrying off both old and young.
It was very rife throughout many towns in Scotland and other parts; but I will here only refer to Glasgow, which indeed suffered very much at that time, - although, I believe, that everything was done by doctors and other people to prevent the progress of this fearful trouble, but with littlesuccess, for nearly all who were seized with the disease died in great distress. They were first seized by purging, vomiting and cramp, so that they suffered very much with the violent pain.
Many people who were quite well in the morning, were dead and buried in the evening; and it was even said that many were buried before they were dead. Husbands who took breakfast with their wives before going to work, were shocked on their return home at night to hear of their wives or children being buried. They thought they must have been buried alive; and I heard of some who caused graves to be opened, so that they might be assured of the truth. As soon as the report was spread concerning someone being attacked with this woeful disease, the hospital van was sent and carried off the person, and in a few hours afterwards it was said they were in the grave. Those hospital cans were constantly kept, day and night, running from house to house, conveying the poor sufferers away to the various hospitals, and few, if any, ever returned home again. Panic rose to such a pitch, that many people who happened to be worse of drink, or weakness, if they fell, were lifted up and hurried off to the cholera hospitals, when there was no cholera about them.
During this time, there were many half or wholly insane people who frequented the streets of Glasgow, but in a short time there were none of them to be found - all disappeared about the cholera time. I suppose they were mixed up among the number of unfortunates that helped to fill up our graveyards, for in this case there were no single graves. Large pits, wherein the corpses were laid one on top of the other, like herrings in a barrel, being used. The weeping friends knew not where they were lying; but there they will remain until the judgment day, when the grave will give up its dead.
