Descendants of George Gordon
I believe that he came to this country from Scotland in 1774 as a child. He was born in 1768 and the reference you had about the Bachelor of Leith is one that I am using.
Why, it mentions that William brought the families of sons Alexander and John. My gggrandfather is named Alexander John Gordon. George was a tailor by trade. I do believe that when the Gordon Family left Scotland they all probably left and came together.
Now, the Bachelor of Leith sailed from the Isle of Skye in Scotland and that is the area of the Mcleod and Mckenzie clans. George's mother was Margaret Mcleod. George had one sister that I know of, Christan, who was older than George. Christan married Kenneth McKenzie and you will notice on the Iredall map (I also have a copy) that near where Gilbert Gordon is located you will find Kenneth. I believe that the McKenzie's also came from Scotland with the Gordons. George is not mentioned on the map, but they all tended to live close together. For example, one of Kenneth and Christan's daughters married into the Bogle family which are shown just north of the Mckenzie family. I think that Alexander married Flora McKaskill who had a daughter named Flora who George married. All of their children were born in NC in that area. Their surviving children were ....

George and Family left NC in 1820 to come to Georgia. They stayed in Georgia for 20 years. I found them in an area that is near Atlanta, Covington, Georgia (Newton County). There they were members of the Hopewell ARP Church which is still an active congregation. There they met the McDill Family and when the McDill Family moved to the Henderson County, Ill. area, George and family went with them. They moved to Henderson County, Ill. (western part on Mississippi River near Monmouth, Ill.) in 1840 and most stayed there. Robert and William Dixon moved to Nebraska.
Robert Gordon married Elizabeth Ferguson who was from eastern Tennessee around present day Knoxville. After they married (I do not know how they got together) they lived in Covington where Robert had a blacksmith shop. Their children were ....
