Robert S Gordon’s Ancestry
Gilbert Mitchell Gordon, my Grandfather was born in Aberlour Scotland in 1894. He was a member of the Gordon Highlanders, 713 Regiment, 3rd Battalion. He served in WWI with the Expeditionary Forces France and lost a couple fingers from a gunshot wound near Lille France Oct 16, 1914. He married Beatrice Pratt.
His father, Alexander Gordon, was born 1856 in Aberlour and died in 1933. He was a Shoemaker. Gilbert’s mother was Helen Stuart born 1859 in Aberlour.
His father was George Gordon born in 1818 in Rothiemurchus, Inverness-shire and died in 1904 Aberlour. He married Helen Green in 1839 (born 1818 Aberlour, died 1892.
George’s father was William Gordon born 2 Oct 1789 Inverness, died 1846. He married Margaret McQueen who was born 29 Jan 1802 in Rothiemurchus.
William’s father was Patrick Gordon (born 8 Jun 1766 in Inverness) and mother was Margaret Grant.
Patrick’s father was John Gordon (born 6 Apr 1740 in Inverness) and mother was Christian Mclean. They were married 21 Dec 1762 in Inverness
John’s father was Duncan Gordon (born 28 Sept 1720 in Alvie, Inverness-shire). John’s christening record didn’t list his mother. Duncan later married Demillia Cumming.
Duncan’s father was Donald Gordon (born 1 Jan 1691 in Logierait, Perthshire) and mother Elspet Mclean (born 13 Jan 1691 in Inverness). They were married 22 Feb 1715 in Alvie, Inverness-shire.
I found Donald’s parents were listed as Robert Gordon and Beatrix Menzies in the birth record, but I couldn’t find anything else about Robert and Beatrix in either Ancestry Library or Scotlands People. I did see their names in other people’s family trees in Ancestry Library who had traced them back further (I can’t claim the info is correct though).
Other’s families trees showed Robert Gordon was born 9 Feb 1665 in Errol Perthshire, and Beatrix Menzies was born about 1665 in Scotland.
They listed Robert’s parents as Patrick Gordon (born 18 Apr 1637 in St Andrew, Fife) and Margaret Gray (born 16 Feb 1640 in Errol, Perthshire). They were married 6 Dec 1663 in Perth, Perthshire.
His parents were listed as Patrick Gordon (born abt 1610 in Scotland) and Effie Gray (born abt 1612 in Scotland).
