Descendants of John Gordon, born abt 1759, Scotland

John Gordon and his Family
(Chester County, Uwchland Township, and Lionville, Pennsylvania.)

Overview
The known progenitor of the Gordon surname of our particular family in the United States is John Gordon.   I am not aware of any primary documents at this time (5/2014) that establish his place of birth.  However, John Rogers Gordon (1817-1887) was interviewed as an adult and stated that his grandfather came to the United States from Scotland at the time of the American Revolution.  Futhey and Cope’s History of Chester County published in 1881, and Rogers’ Family History published in 1938 both indicate that John Gordon was born in Scotland.

For over one-hundred years John Gordon and his descendants owned large tracts of farm land in Uwchland Township of Chester County.  Present day Lionville, PA is substantially located on land once owned by John Gordon, and “Gordon Drive” near Lionville is a present day reminder of the family’s connection to the area.

I suspect that the name “Margaret” may be the name of one of John’s family members (Mother or sister?).
